Justifications
for a Federal Death Penalty Law
[ send
me this paper ]
A 5 page discussion of the justifications which exist for
imposing a federal death penalty. Emphasizes that such a
penalty would not only permanently remove violent criminals
from society but also serve as a deterrent to potential
criminals. Dismisses the argument against such a penalty on
the basis that it discriminates against lower socioeconomic
classes who can not afford private defense with the
observation that if our representation system is at fault
then those inadequacies should be addressed, not be used as
an excuse against the federal death penalty. Bibliography
lists 6 sources.

nobody can truly understand. This paper focuses on the cases
as well as the verdicts of two of the most well-known
convicted killers, that of Susan Smith of South Carolina and
Darlie Routier of Texas. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Morality
Crimes and Punishment in Saudi Arabia and Turkey
[ send
me this paper ]
An 8 page discussion of the manner in which morality crimes
are defined and punished under Islamic law. Punishment can,
and does, consist of such actions as amputations and even

horrendous to us, it is incontestably very effective.

Pregnant
Addict Women: Harm Reduction or Coercion?
[ send
me this paper ]
7 pages in length. Could it be a better resolution and
therefore better control for addict mothers, if the American
government would enforce harm reduction for pregnant addicts
rather than coercion? Why is it not accepted in today's
society that addict mothers may really care about their
unborn child, but perhaps, some drugs would infuse a false
sense of reality to these mothers? In considering the above
question this paper takes into account theories set forth in
the subject of criminology and deviant behavior.

Crime: Victim Experiences Relating to Retaliations for the
September 11, 2000 World Trade Center and Pentagon Disasters
[ send
me this paper ]
A 10 page overview of the concept of racist crime. Notes the
events which are unfolding in our country today are
essentially the same as those which have been targeted
against one race or ethnicity or another throughout American
history. The criminal activity which is all too often
associated with such mindset has been recently termed hate
crimes. Although there are many examples of such crimes,
there is no better example of the deplorability of these
crimes than the condemnable actions which too many in our
populace are taking today against Arabic peoples in a form
of societal retaliation for the September 11 World Trade
Center and Pentagon disasters. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Robert
K. Merton's Anomie Theory And Gang Violence
[ send
me this paper ]
15 pages in length. There exist a number of components
critical to the overall understanding of the Robert K.
Merton's anomie theory. That a clear connection can be made
between crime and one's social/economic status speaks
volumes about the nature of humanity. Indeed, evidenced by
the author's rationale is the fact that advanced nations
appear to endure a higher level of crime due to their vastly
segregated social and economic status, leaving the door wide
open for resentment and intolerance, which effectively
translates into criminal activity. Merton, highly regarded
as one of the most influential sociologist of the twentieth
century, re-established Emile Durkheim's original anomie
theory that stated humanity's goal-achieving methods
severely conflicted with the ultimate goal. When taken in
the context of the American Dream, one can better understand
the antagonistic relationship that exists between
socio-economic limitations and the intrinsic human desire to
achieve; as such, one can also readily realize how this
struggle applies to gang violence. Merton states this theory
based upon five fundamental adaptations: conformity,
innovations, ritualistic, retreatist or rebellion.

Serial
Killers: Their Personalities, Their Motivations
[ send
me this paper ]
6 pages in length. Although much has been written and many
theories brought forth on identifying the criminal mind, it
is still evident that there is no foolproof way to know in
advance whether a person is prone to criminal activity. Some
personality traits have been shown to be more prevalent in
the makeup of serial or mass murderers, and this paper
addresses those traits and the motivations behind the
killings. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

Social
Control Theory.
[ send
me this paper ]
(4 pp) Social Control theorists start with the premise that
human behavior is by nature antisocial and delinquent. They
focus on restraining or "controlling" factors that
are broken or missing inside the personalities of criminals.
If these restraining factors are thought to involve society
in some way, as with the sociological notion that norms are
internalized, then the theory is said to be a
"social" control theory. Durkheim and Hirschi are
discussed. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Sociology
of Crime

Sociology of Crime: This 8-page essay discusses a number of
issues inherent in the sociology of crime, including types
of law, judicial history, and a chronological look at the
prevalent theories used to delineate both the causal factors
and patterns of aberrant human behavior. Fundamental to our
own system of justice, (and thereby the subsequent and
relevant theories that came to reflect our contemporary
beliefs about criminology), is the British monarchy and its
Common Law dicta. Using this as the cornerstone of the U.S.
Constitution, our Forefathers delineated the democratic
rules and judicial parameters that have remained with us to

Surveillance:
A Benefit To Society
[ send
me this paper ]
12 pages in length. Based upon the escalating violence, drug
use and poor-quality workmanship infiltrating the masses, it
has become necessary for employers, school systems and the
community at large to implement a means by which to thwart
the negative by-products of such activity. Surveillance,
even though significantly intrusive, plays an integral role
in saving society from itself, given the fact that people
are taking less and less responsibility for their own
actions and how they may create a damaging influence upon
unsuspecting others. The writer discusses how it has,
indeed, become imperative that surveillance be utilized as a
means by which to control the unwanted element of society,
which in turn only serves to benefit all concerned.

Testosterone:
The Differentiating Element In Male/Female Crimes
[ send
me this paper ]
5 pages in length. It goes without saying that there exists
an inherent difference in the aggressive tendencies of males
and females. When addressing this in relation to criminal
activity, one can readily surmise why men are, by far, more
violent, inasmuch as there are significantly divergent
responses to external stimuli between men and women for the
sole reason that male chemistry is comprised of considerably
more testosterone, the single-most influential component of
aggressive behavior. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

by David H. Bayley
[ send
me this paper ]
A 5 page critique of the 1997 completely revised edition of
this book on the Japanese criminal justice system. This

which resulted over that history than it is to factors such
as the economy or the types of punishment which are imposed.
Emphasizes that Japan has clearly imposed societal
expectations, expectations which are both shaped and
reinforced by societal institutions, as to how its citizens
are to interact. No additional sources are listed.
